“Clarity rises when the heart listens and the mind lets go.” ~ DD
The Compass Within
by DD
They say the heart
is just a muscle.
A pump.
Nothing more.
But I know better.
We all do
somewhere deeper.
Because the heart
feels what the mind can’t measure.
It remembers things
before thought can explain them.
It knows joy
without needing a reason.
Still,
I’ve let the brain take over –
steering the wheel,
charting the course,
convincing me it had the answers.
And sure,
it’s good at sorting things out.
The brain gets stuff done.
Numbers, lists,
the whole “shabang.”
It protects, calculates, plans.
It means well.
Truly.
But it doesn’t always listen.
It tries to fix what’s not broken.
It questions the mystery.
It boxes in what was meant to breathe.
And the heart –
it starts to fade
when it isn’t heard.
It beats,
but without music.
It waits,
longing for a life
that feels like mine.
The truth is:
the brain is brilliant,
but it isn’t whole without the heart.
And the heart is wise,
but it needs grounding too.
Neither one was ever meant to lead alone.
I’m learning now
to let them sit together –
not one ahead, not one behind.
But side by side.
Not arguing.
Listening.
Learning to move as one.
Because when they do,
that’s when I feel alive.
Not just thinking.
Not just feeling.
But being –
aligned, awake,
whole.
