I Am Giving Myself a Quiet Winter

For everyone,
Love the seasons.
But respect the one
You are in.

I am walking into winter.

Rest and hibernation await –

I cannot wait.

Candles flicker in the dark,

A hot drink warms my hands,

Calming jazz drifts from the speaker.

Perhaps a timeless classic,

Or perhaps a nap –

Sleep it all off

Before preparing a meal.

There I am,

Yawning.

Tiredness settling in,

Withdrawing from the season

Of giving, giving, giving –

Plenty,

Yet never enough.

And still, I am –

Just as I am.

Turning inward,

Tending my own garden,

Setting firm boundaries.

Stopping demands, emotions, noise

That are not mine.

I am giving myself

A quiet winter.
