This poem “Selective Empathy’ is not about taking sides in a political conflict. It is about humanity – the profound pain I feel witnessing how selective empathy fractures us, especially when Jewish people worldwide, including Israelis, are targeted simply for protecting their lives and communities.
My call is for honest compassion for all children of this world, without exception, without erasing anyone’s truth. This is a plea to see the whole human story and to stand firmly against hatred and erasure in any form.

See that – in everyone.
“The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference.” ~ Elie Wiesel
Selective Empathy
My heart – oh dear!
Division.
Selection.
This side,
No – the other!
When we are meant to be
Together.
One Humanity!
My heart!
It breaks
Over and over –
Torn
Left, right,
And center.
Tired of holding space
For those who just won’t listen,
Refuse to accept
There is no other –
Only the one in the mirror
Shouting,
Screaming,
Blind
To see,
To feel
From the heart!
That we are all children of God,
We all deserve to live in peace,
With support
And kindness!
My heart!
Protect what’s dear to you!
And it is indeed a fierce fight!
Where children on both sides die,
Because humanity thinks it knows –
When it knows fuck all.
Ignorance can be bliss,
But it spirals out of hand,
Hurting another,
Starting with themselves.
My heart!
I feel you.
I am here.
I won’t leave you.
I protect you.
